Subject: Repair of Electrically Heated Carlite Windshields

We have received a number of inquiries with regard to repairing the glass in electrically heated windshields. Please be advised that we believe the repair or attempted repair of heated windshields could affect the function of the windshield.

The electrically heated windshield works on resistance in the metallic coating to produce heat. Repairs can interfere with the continuity of this resistance, possibly causing changes in the heating pattern, damage to the electrical system, localized arcing, or breakage of the glass.

In recognition of these factors, Ford Glass Division does not recommend the repair of electrically heated Carlite Windshields. If you have any questions or need additional information regarding our position, please contact your Carlite District Manager.
