That is a vent glass puller. After you wrap the new
glass with channel packing tape you clamp the glass in the puller and crank
the glass into the vent frame. Cool tool... XPG
Yes
very cool tool if you can find one.. Somaca lists it in there catalog but has
not carried it for years. I used to have one that was on loan from a shop that
specialized in complete antique restoration. Since I did all their glass work
for them they let me use it whenever I needed. I actually had it at my shop
for a couple of years. Then he moved his restoration shop out of state and I
had to relinquish the tool.
I still do a lot of restoration work and really miss that
tool. Just finished a 57 Chevy 2 door sedan, and a 34 Chevy 2 door sedan. I
have a 33 Plymouth coupe and a 52 Chevy P/U lined up for after the first of
the year. This tool was meant for this type of work.

We have two of them. Really old. We hardly ever use them
but when you need them they are great. SB
We were calling on PPG locations a couple of years ago and
noticed some of these vent pullers laying on the shelves in their stores. The
managers were younger guys and did not even know what they were. You might
send your picture to the guys at PPG and find someone who could help you
locate them.
If I remember correctly I saw some in Virginia and Ohio.
They were discontinued by most companies several years ago. They were
originally distributed by the company CarPak. If you can find an old original
they were much better. The newer ones (15 years old) were foreign made and not
very good. Good Luck. Ray at Equalizer
