Remove the cowl as a unit don't separate it. Take off
2 10mm nuts, pull seal, remove metal hooks, remove squirters, and start
on r side and remove. On this w/s their are 2 w/s's for this car one
with rain sensor one without. None of the distributors in our area have
these, we have been getting them from the dealer. Also check dealer
prices on other glass for this car you will be surprised at the
difference. BG
Take
off the 2 10 mm nuts from each side then take off the silver sharp clips
then pull the center out like your buckling it then tug left side then
the right side, the whole thing will come out. I know your saying, I've
tried this and the damn cowl separates in two parts, Trust me I do about
ten of these a week, Hope this helps you.

I will no doubt catch flack for
posting this idea as the Benz mechanics at our local dealer say the best
way to remove the cowl on the ML are to take the hood off! Now many will
not like this idea but I have never pulled a cowl on an ML. What I do is
pull it back (the shield slips into the cowl this way is a two man set
for me) it will pull up enough to set the glass into the cowl.
Once
set into position it will lay down on the urethane and not slip down
into it this can be done weather you decide to full cut or close cut!!
the cowl does not need to be remove this has worked out well for me but
may not be for everyone!!
Yes there are actually 3
w/shield for these ML's one has a Honda type mirror button/one has a
upside down Mopar button and last will have the Mopar button with the
rain sensor hope this helps some people.

There is 1 FW2068 98-99 2 different FW2188 as you
said with sensor and without. The 2068 has a different frit and
bracket and will not interchange with the 2188.
