I recently did a 2001 Audi A4 and had no problems at all until I went to install the rear view mirror. I used a FW 823 and the mirror shroud for the wires seems to be about a half an inch to long and wont clear the headliner. has anyone had this problem? Any ideas?   wsguy747 4/22/01

The dealer has two different windshields, with different mirror positions (1/2"diff.) and is used on A4's. Check by VIN.  GBM, MD

Buy the glass from the dealer they moved the mirror bracket down to accommodate the electrical part of the mirror. If its just the mirror and no electrical you can use a fw823.  Carglass

The dealer w/shield is the only one that will fit these because of the wiring in the rear view mirror and the cover used! The A-6 has the same type of cover for the wires. The first 2000 A-4 I did I lucked out and put the mirror on first and it hit the top molding so all I did was trim the cover 1/4" that is the only diff. on the 96 thru 2001 A-4!!! Now I only use the newer one is only available thru Audi dealer, as to date NAG'S still calls for an FW823!!!! Using the newer one saves a lot of head aches if you do a lot of these and stock them!!  Rick L

Thanks I ended up trimming it till I could figure out the problem. I did order the part from the dealer as well as the new cover. I don't want the next guy to have a big problem when they finally straighten out the bracket problem.wsguy747
