1977 Porsche Targa Backglass

I'm an NGA certified autoglass tech., and battled with a heated back glass for a 1977 Porsche Targa for five hours and still lost the fight. This back glass appears at first glance to be a simple gasket set, either a "rope-in" or a "slingshot" job, maybe even a forty minute "hook-over". I work with other tech's with up to 23 years experience and no can see what we're doing incorrectly. Any tips?  RL 4/20/01

These look like you can sneak them in but I've never had any luck trying to do this. Take the cover off the roll bar. There are screws under the back of the removable top rear seal, and 10MM bolts under the fender wells above the rear tires. With the rubber on the glass, the heater wire installed, and the lower moldings in the rubber, this becomes a rope in job. Don't bother to try to do the wires like the factory but use a v cut where the original wires were. These are a job but you can do it. GOOD LUCK!  BG

It is usually a pretty simple installation.  wsguy 747
