Anybody have any helpful tips for a windshield installation on a 1959 corvette?  mag 5/27/01

If you have never done one of these forget everything you know about autoglass. Any thing you have done will not even come close. This is a very easy install. Do not remove the w/s frame from the car, it (the windshield) can be changed on the car. The frame assembly is composed of 4 pieces, top, bottom, and 2 sides. The assembly is bolted on the car with "T" bolts on the bottom piece and 2 studs each on the side pieces.

On the studs on the side pieces, the nuts are accessed through the kick panels. Remove kick panel screws and cover plate at the corner dog legs. Nuts are in corner of dog leg and are 1/2". Loosen these, don't remove them. Take off mirror and visors; and remove screws from top inner frame. At the junction of the top molding and the sides are 4 Machine phillips screws, remove these.

The frame can now be spread apart. Spread apart the frame and remove the w/s. This is the hard part. The w/s is harder to remove than it is to install. Lots of release agent or silicone will make it easier to remove. Some times you can remove the w/strip to make removing the w/s easier.

Once you get the w/s out this whole procedure will look simple. Put new w/strip on glass lube the heck out of it and it will pop right in. The only problem you may have is centering and locating the machine screws with the plates that holds them, but this isn't too hard.

We always seal everything as the rubber is there to hold the glass not to seal it. GOOD LUCK!  BG
