The Chevrolet / GMC Van Urethane set windshield is
tough. Any tips?
"Reuse the old moldings if
possible as they will have the proper shape and fit better. Put new ones out
in the sun before you start the job and be aware that the moldings are
oversized so you will have to cut them to fit.
Make sure the windshield stops go where they belong so
they fit with the cut outs in the molding. Set the windshield and back fill
with urethane and run a plastic stick around cutting a small section of
urethane out for the molding. Set the moldings in and tape if the paint is
not peeling.
Make sure you have an outer and inner molding ready in case
someone converted over to a rubber set, which is a no no."
"The correct way to
install a DW925 is to order dealer moldings, a new inner molding, and left
and right outer moldings. Remove moldings and strip urethane from body,
making sure to prime body for any scratches or exposed metal. Install inner
molding making sure its bottomed out around corners. Run your bead with a v
tip, making sure its above inner molding. Set windshield; and backfill as
needed for outer molding. Complete job one hour. Hold vehicle longer than
normal to ensure proper safety and cure."
"...send it to your
favorite competitor cause they're a pain and can be messy if you're not
careful...if you must do this job, make sure you have the interior molding,
as it sometimes can be hacked up, especially if it's been done before."
I
stopped re-using the old moldings 3-4 years ago. Just get the new one nice
and hot on your defroster and they work pretty good. I have heard about the
universal ones but have never tried one. top

I use the old moldings over...I never,
never, use a new one. But If I had to I use T-109, that stuff is like 1.5
inches wide. FXS
Well,
we use new mldgs., if the job is inside or you have nice weather there fine.
Precision has the mldgs. with the 2 sided tape or oem.

Try to use the old ones over cause they
are already formed. But if you cant use them over I recommend spending a
little extra and buy new ones from the dealer. The big difference is the
dealer molding uses double stick tape where the other one uses butyl. Well
the tape will hold down in the corners and makes a much nicer job.

I believe its Flexi-Trim that has a
Universal single application roll. It has double stick tape around the edge
of it that prevents the molding from rolling like the 26 mm universal. I
have not used it personally but have heard it is the best product to use
aftermarket to date. ws guy
