Deciding Between Air or Electric Power Tools

From the TechBoard

"Our installers are looking for some power tools. Have been doing with just cold knives, long knives, and the like, but ready to go power. But in general, is air or electric tools a better investment. We don't do mobile so not worried about having to put air or generator on trucks. Our air compressor is old and am worrying about enough pressure or water in the lines harming the equipment."

If you’re worried about your air compressor there are regulators that can give you clean air if you want to go with the air tools." Gilbert Gutierrez, Equalizer

"A very good question. Its like asking which is better, a box wrench or an opened end wrench. It is a matter of preference and what will be cost effective for you. Air tools have less moving parts and are easy to maintain. Repairs are less expensive. Air tools do require lubrication, proper air pressure (90 PSI for the BTB) and clean dry air from the air compressor. Power tools do the cutting work for you reducing stress and strains in your hands, elbows, shoulders, neck and back." Mark Daniels

"Air tools are cheaper... less problems on repairs... just keep the hoses off the dash as much as possible.... most air tools require at least 60cfm to operate... get a good compressor that will generate a minimum of around 100cfm and you will have no problem with the running of the tools... there are several brands... get a salesman to demonstrate and pick what you like."  CarGlass42
