| There is nothing
more important to Safelite's success than our partnerships with
clients like you. And we know that open communication is an important
part of that partnership. In the spirit of open communication, there
is some important information....
The television newsmagazine
20/20 is planning a segment on the auto glass industry. We learned
this when we were approached by 20/20 with a video showing a Safelite
installation, and asked for comment. Here's what we know about the
story:
1. The segment is likely to
focus on auto glass installation safety across the industry.
2. Tapes of any of four different installations from various auto glass
companies could be shown as part of the segment. We understand that
companies of various sizes ware selected - we have not seen the other
tapes.
3. The Safelite installation was filmed in Spokane, WA in May of 1999.
The customer was Al Hitchcock of Auto Glass Specialists in Wisconsin.
4. Although we could not draw any conclusions about the safety of the
installation by simply reviewing the tape, the technician's actions
were definitely not up to Safelite's standards. In fact, since he had
not followed Safelite's procedures, the technician was terminated.
5. The segment is likely to run in early or mid-February, but we do
not have a precise airdate.
We have let 20/20 know that
this installation did not meet our standards, and we have dismissed
the technician.
Safelite is taking this very
seriously. Safety is and has been our first concern and we train,
retrain, and inspect constantly to ensure safe installations. We have
an unblemished safety record nationwide and in this market.
This experience has caused us
to redouble our efforts around training and compliance with our
standards ... confident that Safelite will continue to take a
leadership role on safety within our industry. We will continue to
innovate, both in service and safety, to be your choice - and
America's choice - for auto glass repair and replacement solutions.
