The following is text from PPG letter sent to some of
their potential participants of the new PPG PROSTARS program:

PPG Industries, Inc. is pleased to offer you an opportunity to participate in a new, national marketing initiative to be introduced in 1999. The initiative, named PPG PROSTARS, is a voluntary marketing alliance to be formed between PPG and qualified LYNX Services auto glass replacement shops. PPG PROSTARS will not affect your status as a LYNX Services participant.

The purpose of the alliance is to enable PPG PROSTARS participants and PPG to more effectively compete in the auto glass replacement business. Our strategy is to build business by creating a national brand, PPG PROSTARS, that combines the strength of your company’s local market presence with PPG’s reputation and capabilities in automobile glass manufacturing, and claims management. We intend to work closely together to create a nationally recognized brand that stands for quality service. The purpose of this brand is to positively influence the selection of your shop for auto glass work.

This invitation is being extended to all active LYNX Services participants. If you would like to learn more about PPG PROSTARS, and how you can participate, simply return the enclosed reply card before January 15, 1999. Your local PPG ARG representative will then contact you to schedule a detailed review of the new initiative.

It is important that we hear from you before January 15, 1999, whether you are interested or not. To expedite development of the new alliance, the open enrollment period for LYNX Services participants to join PPG PROSTARS extends only until March 15, 1999. After this date, future invitations to participate will be at the discretion of PPG.

I believe the time is right for a marketing initiative that will create a unique and sustainable competitive position for us both. This is our goal in launching PPG PROSTARS. We look forward to receiving your response in the next few weeks.
