This year’s legislative session is
shaping up to be one of the most significant sessions for the
Minnesota Glass Association (MGA) and the glass industry in at least 6
years. The issues that we have decided to pursue have been endorsed by
our Board and also by the Board of the Minnesota Independent Glass
Association (MIGA). While MGA and MIGA are separate organizations, we
have decided to combine our efforts in pursuit of this important
legislation.
The legislative
package includes:
- Provide for
private right of action so glass shops can sue insurance companies
- Establish giveaway
limit of $50
- Require Department
of Commerce to approve insurance company phone scripts
- Require that third
party payers must identify themselves accurately on phone
- Language to
decrease large corporate referrals for glass repair.
MGA staff lobbyists, Board members,
and volunteers will work together with MIGA lobbyists and the MIGA
Board to promote this legislative agenda. At this point we think it is
critical that we push forward before our businesses suffer much more
from the unfair claims settlement practices that are an unfortunate
part of our marketplace today.
This effort caries a lot of costs.
Many glass shops have already made contributions of $500 or $1000 to
this effort. If you have not already done so please consider making a
contribution to the Minnesota Glass Association today. Please
reference the "legislative fund" on your check made to the
Minnesota Glass Association.
