IGA Meets with State
Farm

Tim Smale, chief
executive officer of the Independent Glass Association (IGA), met with
officials of State Farm Insurance Co. to express the group’s concerns
about its new offer and acceptance program.
In a meeting with David Williams, national glass manager, Chris Coyne, national glass supervisor, and Thomas Bergeron, research technician, Smale presented the results of his financial study of the industry, which shows how the insurance company has been responsible for a reduction of 10 to 15 percent margin erosion for independents on the Q&A program during the last two years. Also discussed at length was the Bloomington, Ind., company’s market study method and how it goes about determining markets and market pricing, as well as other matters of interest to the group. “We laid a lot of groundwork during the meeting, and I felt that they listened to the points I made,” Smale states. “There are a number of philosophical things we can work together on, like training and certification. The biggest issue is relief on the pressure to join the Q&A at low margins, and I hope that my visit will have an impact there,” he adds. |
