ESSEX ARG Drops Butyl Products From It's Line

As the use of butyl for auto glass installations at the OEM level was phased out in the early 1990's, Essex ARG has discontinued offering  its butyl tape and sealant. The industry trend is to use urethane almost exclusively, and the Dayton, Ohio company has seen demand for butyl products in the aftermarket diminish substantially.

According to David Frey, commercial manager for Essex, the misuse of butyl products by some in the aftermarket installation  business was also a factor in the company's decision to drop the butyl line from it's product offering.
